Position Overview: Language & Cross-Culture Facilitator (LCF)

The Language & Cross-Culture Facilitator (LCF) plays a critical role in training Peace Corps Trainees (PCTs) and Volunteers (PCVs) in Kinyarwanda language and cross-cultural competencies.

Reporting: Training Manager (TM) with day-to-day coordination by the Homestay, Language, and Culture Coordinator (HLCC)
Type: Intermittent, full-time for the contract duration.

The LCF will:

  • Teach Kinyarwanda using Peace Corps-approved methods and materials.
  • Correct pronunciation, tone, and grammar using drills and structured lessons.
  • Track and report trainee progress, recommending class transfers when appropriate.
  • Collaborate with host families to facilitate cultural immersion and language practice.
  • Support homestay integration and trainee adjustment to local customs.

Key Responsibilities

1. Language Training

  • Lead Kinyarwanda classes and integrate technical and cross-cultural vocabulary.
  • Participate in Training-of-Trainers workshops and lesson plan development.
  • Prepare teaching materials, charts, and learning aids.
  • Monitor, assess, and document PCT language progress.
  • Conduct one-on-one reviews and accompany trainees on community-based activities.
  • Ensure trainees consistently practice Kinyarwanda in class, homestays, and communities.

2. Cultural & Homestay Support

  • Advise host families on trainee integration and cultural experiences.
  • Monitor trainee cultural adjustment, safety, and compliance with curfew.
  • Document integration progress and address any homestay issues.
  • Serve as a resource on cultural norms and cross-cultural communication.


Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree (A0) in Education or related field with proven adult teaching experience.

Experience

  • 5+ years in adult language and cross-cultural instruction.
  • 5+ years working in multicultural environments.
  • Experience designing/adapting Kinyarwanda language and cross-cultural materials.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Expertise in second-language teaching methods.
  • Fluent in Kinyarwanda and English (written and spoken).
  • Strong lesson plan development and instructional material creation skills.
  • Ability to facilitate learning, motivate trainees, and manage adult learners.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity.
  • Ability to work in remote locations and maintain confidentiality.
