Job Purpose
The Engineering Technician will be responsible for operating, monitoring, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing Building Automation Systems (BAS) that control the embassy’s mechanical and electrical infrastructure.
The position supports the reliable operation of heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), electrical controls, sensors, automated monitoring equipment, and other mission-critical building systems while ensuring compliance with safety and engineering standards.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
Building Automation Systems
- Operate and maintain computerized Building Automation Systems (BAS)
- Monitor building control systems for optimal performance
- Configure and adjust automation settings
- Diagnose BAS alarms and system faults
Preventive & Corrective Maintenance
- Perform preventive maintenance on building automation equipment
- Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical control systems
- Repair automation controllers, sensors, actuators, and field devices
- Respond promptly to equipment failures

Engineering Support
- Assist with maintenance planning and scheduling
- Support Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) initiatives
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and technical documentation
- Coordinate with facility management on infrastructure improvements
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all maintenance activities comply with embassy safety procedures
- Follow U.S. engineering, fire protection, and construction standards
- Minimize operational disruptions during maintenance work
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) in one of the following fields:
- Mechanical Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- General Engineering
- Computerized Systems
- Control and Instrumentation
- Automation Engineering
- Related Engineering Discipline
Applicants should also provide evidence of specialized technical training relevant to Building Automation Systems.
Required Professional Experience
Candidates should have:
- At least five (5) years of experience operating and maintaining Building Automation Systems (BAS)
- Minimum two (2) years working directly with BAS controllers and components
- At least three (3) years maintaining large commercial, institutional, or government facilities
- Experience applying U.S. building, electrical, fire safety, and construction standards
Language Requirements
Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in:
- English (Written and Spoken)
- Kinyarwanda (Written and Spoken)
Strong communication skills in both languages are required.

- Advanced knowledge of Building Automation Systems (BAS)
- Strong understanding of HVAC control systems
