English is the king of languages
Incontestably, English is the most widely spoken language worldwide. Some people even go far by saying “it is a universal language”. Why is it so? According to the data of 2022 taken from Statista; the numbers showed that there were around 1.5 billion people worldwide who spoke English either natively or as a second language. Besides, the same survey showed that more than 1.1 billion were Mandarin Chinese speakers while Hindi and Spanish accounted for the third and fourth and French fifth as most widespread languages that year.
Following the above numbers, it is hard to deny that English is global dominant language and which in my view, cannot be easy to dethrone. It is established in more than 60 nations around the world.
English is a global common mean of communication
English has gained undisputable official status. Look this! It is the official language of the United Nations, Commonwealth countries, European Union, African Union, Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), NAFTA, Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Caribbean Community, and the union of South America Nations, just to name few without considering academic world. Does this tell you something?
English is an entry door to access to various fields
The role played by English language to have access to various fields including technology (internet), books, business and media, etc. cannot require switching on light to see. If you walk a little bit around, you will find out that English has become an airport language, internet language, military language and diplomacy language, etc.
Now, for one’s future carrier success, I would suggest to consider the famous words of Frank Smith that: “one language sets you in a corridor for life. Two languages open door along the way”.
