Join the Africa CDC as an AVoHC Rapid Responder – Environmental Health Expert
The African Union (AU), through Africa CDC, is recruiting 50 skilled professionals to join the African Volunteers Health Corps (AVoHC) Rapid Responder team. This role is an on-call, volunteer-based opportunity for professionals with expertise in environmental health, public health, epidemiology, infection prevention, and related fields.
📢 Important Note: This is NOT a full-time employment opportunity. Selected volunteers will be called upon when needed for public health emergency response efforts across Africa.
Key Responsibilities of an Environmental Health Expert (AVoHC Rapid Responder)
As part of Africa CDC’s Public Health Emergencies Incident Management System (IMS), volunteers will:
✅ Assess environmental health risks linked to disease outbreaks.
✅ Develop and implement strategies to mitigate contamination and health hazards.
✅ Provide technical guidance to local health authorities and stakeholders.
✅ Oversee sanitation and hygiene measures in affected areas.
✅ Train local health workers and communities on environmental health best practices.
✅ Collaborate with public health teams, including epidemiologists and case management units.
✅ Monitor and evaluate response effectiveness and adjust strategies as needed.
✅ Submit detailed reports on environmental health initiatives and outcomes.
Who Can Apply?
To qualify for this volunteer opportunity, candidates must meet the following:
Minimum Requirements:
🎓 Education: Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Environmental Health, Public Health, or a related field.
📅 Experience: At least 5 years of relevant experience in environmental health, outbreak response, or public health emergencies.
Preferred Qualifications:
🎓 Advanced degrees (Master’s or PhD) in Environmental Health, Public Health, or related fields.
💼 Experience working with international organizations (e.g., UN, WHO, NGOs, or humanitarian agencies).
